The Child & Youth Community-Based Care microcredential program is a series of courses designed to equip you with essential knowledge and skills for supporting children and youth in community settings. You'll explore the latest trends and strength-based practices, empowering you to make a positive difference in their lives.

The Child & Youth Community-Based Care microcredential program is a different approach to learning. This program consists of 10 courses, each with its own unique credential. When you complete each course, you'll receive a digital badge instead of a traditional certificate. These badges are valuable because they showcase the program outcomes, assessments, and criteria you've accomplished through authentic assessments.

You can pick and choose any microcredential in any order that fits the skills you need for your job right now. If you complete all 10 microcredentials, there is a BONUS; you'll earn the Child & Youth Community-Based Care Worker milestone badge.

Microcredentials are short bursts of learning that fit easily into your busy schedule, helping you gain job skills quickly. They focus on specific competencies crucial in today’s workplace because they’re designed with input from employers and industry experts. Through authentic assessments that simulate real-world tasks, microcredentials showcase what you can do, offering credible and valuable proof to employers. 

The microcredentials in the Child & Youth Community-Based Care series take either 15 hours to do over a 4-week timeframe, or 30 hours to do over an 8-week timeframe (see the duration of each microcredential above on the corresponding course page). You can work at your own pace and potentially complete the course requirements in less time.

At ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program allows you to gain credit for the learning you already possess. RPL provides a way for you to demonstrate your learning and receive formal credit for it. Visit the Admissions RPL page to apply for RPL.

Each microcredential has its own cost. Just register for the courses you want to take and submit payment before the registration deadline. You can find all the details about costs and registration by clicking the "View/Register & Pay" button corresponding to the course you are interested in (see course list above). You may want to check with your employer, as sometimes they are interested in sponsoring their employees as part of their career development. 

The Child & Youth Community-Based Care microcredential program is delivered online. You get access to the entire course right from day one and can work through it at your own pace within the given timeframe. And if you ever need help, your instructor is just a message away!

To take any of the Child & Youth Community-Based Care microcredentials, you must have a High School Diploma, Adult High School Diploma, or GED Diploma of High School Equivalency - a copy of your transcript is required. Plus, you must have a minimum of three months (or 120 hours) of volunteer or work experience in the human services or social services field – a letter confirming proof of your experience is required.

You’ll need a computer with a word processing software and access to the internet to take any of the microcredentials. Some courses may also have a textbook listed on the course outline. Check the individual course requirements when you register.
