Multi-Factor Authentication


Important: In the coming months, all ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ students will be asked by Microsoft to update their primary form of multi-factor authentication to the Microsoft Authenticator app (if it's not already your primary form of MFA).

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application or an online account. MFA is a core component of a strong identity and access management policy. Rather than just asking for a username and password, MFA requires an additional verification factor, which decreases the likelihood of a successful cyber-attack.

During your account activation process, you will be asked to register for Multi-Factor Authentication.

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ offers a variety of methods for MFA verification, listed below.

  • Microsoft Authenticator App or PDF Guide Authentication
  • WinOTP Authenticator (Laptop App) or PDF Guide (Secondary MFA option)
  • SMS Text Code Verification  or PDF Guide (Least Recommended Secondary MFA option)

After setting up your primary MFA method, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ students are strongly encouraged to set up a secondary (backup) form of authentication in case something happens to the primary source. ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ IT is recommending the WinOTP Authenticator as a secondary option for students who have laptop computers. For students without a laptop, you can use the SMS text option as your backup MFA.
