ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ and UNB’s Saint John campus to host a workshop with world leader in Single-Session Therapy
SAINT JOHN – With student mental health issues on the rise, there’s more pressure than ever before on educational counsellors to support the mental wellbeing of students. This week, counsellors from across Atlantic Canada will have the opportunity to learn about a therapeutic approach which can have a positive impact in just one session. New Brunswick Community College (ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½) and the University of New Brunswick’s Saint John campus are hosting a two-day workshop with Dr. Moshe Talmon whose Single-Session Therapy approach enhances and complements counsellors’ traditional methodologies.
Suzanne Desrosiers, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Vice-President of Employee and Student Development, said Single Session Therapy aligns well with ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½’s approach to supporting learners.
“At ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, we are committed to meeting diverse learner needs, and this requires us to focus our resources and expertise in ways that will have the most positive impact on student wellbeing,” said Desrosiers. “Dr. Talmon’s approach is very relevant and valuable for counsellors in educational environments as it allows us to maximize the impact of the first counselling encounter we have with a student.”
In addition to counsellors from across ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ and UNB, counsellors from each of the universities and colleges throughout Atlantic Canada will be attending as well as guidance counsellors from local high schools.
“We’re pleased to have someone of Dr. Talmon’s calibre bring his insights to Saint John to enrich not only counselling support to our students but for our partners in local schools and at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½,” said Robert MacKinnon, Vice-President of UNB’s Saint John campus.
The sold-out workshop takes place April 4 and 5 at UNB’s Grand Hall, 40 Charlotte St., Saint John. It was made possible through the support of the Department of Postsecondary Education, Training and Labour as part of its commitment to promote collaborative post-secondary educational activities across New Brunswick.
