FREDERICTON – Students and staff from all New Brunswick Community College (ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½) campuses took time today at a college-wide event to reflect on their mental wellbeing and learn about resources available through ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ and the community. The event, called “You can… BE WELL!” featured guest speaker Kayley Reed, co-creator of Wear Your Label and the launch of ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Wellbeing – our first-ever mobile app.
“As part of making ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ a great place to work and learn, we want to support each other in fostering mental and physical health,” said Suzanne Desrosiers, Vice President Employee and Student Development at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. “This first-of-its kind event is an opportunity for us to take a moment out of our busy schedules to reflect on their mental wellbeing. We also want to provide students and staff with easy access to supports through the app when it’s needed most.”
In front of an audience of ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ students and staff and via a live broadcast to ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ campuses across the province, Kayley Reed shared her experiences with taking charge of her own mental wellbeing and growing Wear Your Label, a fashion line that aims to raise awareness of mental wellbeing and tackle the stigma of mental illness.
After her talk, students and staff were presented with the new ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ mobile app, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Wellbeing. Feedback gathered from a survey of staff and students in fall of 2015 paved the way for development of the app, which provides students and staff with access to trusted information about mental wellbeing, contact information, and resources that are available through ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ and the community. Students and staff are being asked to provide feedback about the app, which will be used to further improve the app in the future.
